Choosing the right supplier protects your money and your reputation. Use this checklist before committing to a first order from any Thai edible oil company.
10 checks before you commit
- Company registration — ask for the registered company name and tax/registration number, and confirm it's a real Thai entity.
- Certifications — genuine suppliers hold ISO 9001/22000, HACCP, GMP and Halal. Ask to see certificates, not just logos.
- Certificate of Analysis (COA) — every batch should come with lab results for FFA, moisture, peroxide value and colour. Learn what they mean in our specifications guide.
- Third-party inspection — a real exporter will accept SGS or Intertek pre-shipment inspection.
- Real photos & proof — ask for current photos or video of the refinery, tanks, filling lines and container loading. Stock images only are a warning sign.
- Clear specifications — grades and parameters should be specific and aligned with Codex Alimentarius, not vague.
- Transparent MOQ & Incoterms — a straightforward MOQ (e.g. 1×20ft container) and both FOB and CIF quotes. See FOB vs CIF.
- Packaging range — bulk, drums, jerry cans, bottles and private label show real production capability.
- Documentation — they should list the full export document package and any country-specific extras for your market.
- Responsiveness — a dedicated export contact who answers clearly (and on WhatsApp) is a strong signal.
Red flags
- Prices far below market with no inspection allowed.
- No certificates, no COA, or refusal to share factory proof.
- Pressure for full upfront payment to a personal account.
- Generic, copy-paste product pages with stock photos only.
